Budagovski 490

Origin
Bud 490 is a cross of B-9 and Budagovski's hardy rootstock Bud 13 / Bud 14.

Influence on Scion Habit
Scion varieties on Bud 490 are comparable to EMLA 106 vigor.  Bud 490 induces early, very heavy production.

Disease Resistance
Bud 490 has shown medium resistance to collar rot (Phytophthora cactorum) and is moderately susceptible to fire blight (Erwinia amylovora).

Nursery Habit
Bud 490 is a very good stooler and also roots well by hardwood cuttings.  Bud 490 produces good scion growth in the nursery with freedom from suckering.  This rootstock has a tendency to develop burrknots.

Horticultural Value
Bud 490 is very winter hardy and is well suited to the low temperature zones.  Varieties on Bud 490 are well anchored and do not require staking.  Bud 490 is a very productive rootstock and could replace some of the other more vigorous rootstocks in years to come.
